Get At It - Tomorrow Needs You Singlet

"Just shear and I have put together these mental health/suicide awareness singlets to represent something which is becoming more common as men struggle to speak out, or to talk to their mates about their troubles without being perceived as weak.

I have lost more than enough good men and women to suicide. Suicide does not just affect the people who take their lives.

They leave behind families, loved ones, mates, and more.

Myself and a dear friend of mine attended a suicide last year of our very close mate who chose to take his life. This was my fourth for the year. Whilst sitting there numb, beer in hand in Tim’s shed, I said, “this is enough as little as we can do we need to do something.”

We found the ‘Lift the Load Challenge’ run by the Top Bloke Foundation which helps raise money for young men to get help and knowledge on better ways to deal with life’s challenges, than ending it.

The challenge is to wear a 10kg weighted vest over 50kms. The vest represents the weight on someone’s shoulders, who is not able to carry it themselves. 

We do this over the month of October.

As men we struggle with our own emotions and how to share them, but also who to share them with. However, we can’t keep letting ourselves, our mates, and our families down by taking our own lives. Each day can bring its troubles, but each day is 24hrs we can try again.

So GET AT IT was created in 2024, which is an amped up approach to this challenge. This is because over the past year I have experienced eight suicides. 

So this year’s challenge, ever week in October, for myself and anyone able is:

50km on foot 

50km on deadly treadly 

50 push ups.

And for good measure 4 schooners on my day off, to rehydrate for the week to come.

These singlets are to show anyone who reads them that, TOMORROW NEEDS YOU!
