Sponsorship.
When organising a speed shear one of the most important things to help get it up and running is sponsorship. You want the support of local business as well as the donations helping for your prizes and cash for the set up and running costs.
Call around for sponsorship, explain what you are planning & why you want them to be a part of it. Write a letter with your packages available & what your sponsor gets in return (for example $100 donation gets a name on a shearing singlet & name drops during the speed shear) have this ready to email to the potential sponsors that you call. We always ask for this due to so many scams going around.
Support your sponsors by purchasing products that you need for your event from them. For example - if the local supermarket gives you a donation, buy all your catering needs from them. As a sponsor it is quite disheartening to donate your hard earned money to then see opposition receive support & not you as a sponsor. Obviously you can't support everyone but keep it in mind.
Merchandise.
It is hard to choose sizing for your shearing singlets for competitors. We suggest to think about a few of your locals or that you know are coming - order as if they are buying (if you have 3 x 5XL blokes then order extra in 5XL). So if you get 100 I would do something like these ratios. L and XL are always the most popular.

You need to get your artwork organised reasonably early ready for printing. I have suggested in the past to have names rather than logos, this saves a lot of time in collecting the logos and also in the design work if you don't have much time. It can be hard to organise when people don't respond to sponsorship emails - they might send donations fast but often take a while to send their logo, so definately save some stress by putting just the names of sponsors on.
